Providing expert migration services during Mergers & Acquisitions

Most organisations only migrate to Microsoft 365 once or twice in their lifetime.

For us at Nero Blanco IT, it’s something we do every week.

For over 15 years we’ve helped organisations of every size move to Microsoft 365 safely, securely and with minimal disruption.

Microsoft 365 migration specialists

Nero Blanco IT has been providing Microsoft 365 migration services for clients on their journey to the Microsoft Cloud for over 15 years. It’s what we do.  It’s what we eat, sleep and breathe. It’s what we focus on every single day.

We don’t sell laptops.

We don’t build websites.

We don’t deliver end-user training.

We don’t implement CRM systems, HR platforms or accounting software.

We are laser-focused on migrations to Microsoft 365

Over the years we have migrated hundreds of organisations, moving well over a million users along with their mailboxes, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams data. Our work includes migrations from on-premises platforms, complex tenant-to-tenant consolidations, and transitions from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365. We have even recently migrated a “late to the party” client that was still running IBM Domino mail.

The early years

Our journey began during the large wave of migrations away from IBM Lotus Notes and on-premises Microsoft Exchange to Exchange Online. At the time, organisations around the world were standardising on Microsoft’s cloud collaboration platform, creating significant demand for experienced migration specialists.

As Microsoft’s ecosystem evolved, so did the scope of these projects. What started as email migration initiatives quickly expanded into full collaboration platform transformations built around Microsoft 365, SharePoint Online, OneDrive and Microsoft Teams.

Over the years, we have helped organisations move not just their mailboxes, but their entire digital workplace into the Microsoft cloud.

Modern Microsoft tenant configuration

Today, successful Microsoft 365 projects go far beyond data migration. Organisations now require secure, well-architected cloud environments that support modern identity management, device management and information protection.

Microsoft has significantly expanded the security and governance capabilities of its platform, with technologies such as Conditional Access, Privileged Identity Management, Data Loss Prevention, Microsoft Information Protection, Sensitivity Labels and Intune transforming how organisations manage identity, devices and data.

Nero Blanco works with customers to design, build and configure Microsoft 365 and Entra environments that align with their security posture, operational requirements and long-term strategy.

From tenant architecture and identity governance to device management and data protection, we help organisations establish a secure, modern Microsoft cloud foundation that is built to scale.

The Nero Blanco team

Our engineering team is led by Nero Blanco directors Conrad Murray, Twan van Beers and Neil Langston.

Together, the team has delivered migration projects for many global enterprises including Ernst & Young, S&P Global, HSBC, JP Morgan, ASMPT and RWS, among others.

You can read more about some of these projects in our case studies:

One consistent theme that emerges from these projects is the way we work alongside our clients. We aim to become a natural extension of the client team, supporting them through planning, preparation and execution.

Providing expert migration services during mergers, acquisitions and divestitures

Another area where we frequently support organisations is during mergers, acquisitions and divestitures.

When two companies come together, technology integration often becomes one of the most time-critical and complex parts of the transition. Active Directory, email systems, collaboration platforms, identities, domains and security policies must all be aligned – often within tight timeframes and with minimal disruption to business operations.

We regularly help organisations deliver Active Directory and tenant-to-tenant Microsoft 365 migrations during these scenarios, consolidating users, domains, mailboxes, OneDrive data, SharePoint sites and Teams environments into a single target tenant. These projects require careful planning and discovery around identity alignment, coexistence, mail routing and domain transitions – areas where experience makes a significant difference.

Migration projects can understandably feel daunting at the outset. Our role is to provide the experience, structure and reassurance that helps organisations move forward with confidence.  A trusted set of hands.

Technical challenges

Having delivered hundreds of migration projects, we have refined the processes required to deliver migrations safely, efficiently and predictably.

Take identity, for just one example:

Identity underpins every migration. Before a single byte of data is moved, the source and target environments must be aligned with absolute accuracy. That means synchronising Active Directory and Entra ID users, guest accounts, groups, attributes and passwords.

Without this alignment it becomes impossible to generate accurate migration lists, maintain coexistence routing, consolidate the Global Address List or correctly migrate permissions.

Many environments also include tools such as Entra Connect, MTO Sync or other directory synchronisation platforms, all of which must be carefully navigated during the migration.

Domain migrations between Microsoft 365 tenants add another layer of complexity. Any migration engineer will tell you that removing a domain from a tenant can be one of the most time-critical stages of the entire migration. Attributes such as UserPrincipalName, PrimarySMTPAddress and proxyAddresses must be removed from the source tenant and added to the target tenant as quickly and accurately as possible.

During this phase the clock is quite literally ticking – corporate email remains unavailable until the domain transition is complete.

Tooling

Nero Blanco has extensive experience with all the available tools of the trade, and we always select the best-of-breed migration tools for each project. The best tool for email migration, for example, is not necessarily the best tool for migrating Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, or OneDrive.

Many software vendors offer only part of the overall toolset. While they may provide solutions for email, SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive, they often lack capabilities such as directory synchronisation or Windows workstation migration agents.

Our team understands which tools are best suited for each workload and scenario. Where the right tool does not yet exist, our consultants design and build bespoke solutions to bridge the gap.

Whatever the requirement, we’ve got you covered.

The move to cloud-native

Beyond migrations themselves, we are seeing a strong industry trend toward migrating to cloud-native environments.

On-premises infrastructure has increasingly lost the parity race when compared with cloud platforms in terms of security, scalability and feature development.

Many organisations are now planning to retire on-premises infrastructure entirely – including Exchange servers, SharePoint farms and even Active Directory.

A common starting point is the transition of Windows workstations to cloud-managed devices using Microsoft Intune and Entra ID. This allows organisations to begin modernising their endpoint management while laying the foundation for a fully cloud-native environment.

Not our first rodeo

It would be easy to say we have seen everything – although every project still manages to produce something unexpected.

But what experience does provide, however, is the ability to recognise patterns, anticipate challenges and solve problems quickly when they arise.

Migration projects inevitably encounter obstacles along the way. Drawing on years of experience across hundreds of projects allows our team to navigate those challenges calmly and efficiently.

Those lessons, learned through many real-world migrations, are often what make the difference between a stressful migration and a successful one.

Experience matters

There are many capable IT providers in the industry, but migration projects demand specialised expertise.

For over a decade, Nero Blanco IT has focused almost exclusively on helping organisations move successfully into Microsoft 365. That focus has allowed us to build deep technical knowledge, refined processes and a team that understands the complexities of large-scale migration projects.

It’s not our first rodeo, and we’re proud of the experience we bring to every migration.

Thinking about a migration?

If your organisation is planning a migration to Microsoft 365 – whether from on-premises systems, Google Workspace, or another Microsoft tenant, the most important step is getting the planning right from the beginning.

We regularly help organisations run early discovery, migration planning and technical assessments long before the first mailbox or document is moved.

When you “don’t know what you don’t know” about migrations, then you bring in Nero Blanco for surgical precision.

If you’d like to talk through a migration project or simply sanity-check your approach, we’re always happy to have a conversation.
